Shelterbox delivers humanitarian aid relief on a worldwide basis in the form of material and equipment that provides shelter, warmth and comfort for people displaced by natural and other disasters.
Each Shelterbox provides shelter and warmth for up to 10 people for a prolonged period. Each box is uniform in size and normally contains a 10 person tent, 10 thermal blankets, a multi fuel cooker and ancillary equipment such as water purification tablets, a torch and batteries, spade, rope, plastic bags.
The contents can be varied when requested by aid agenices. For example when ShelterBoxes are being sent to tropical climates such as SE Asia, blankets are often replaced with an extra tent (and equipment) for another 10 people thus doubling its effect.

The cost of a complete ShelterBox is AUD$1,200. Donations of less than the cost of a complete ShelterBox are welcomed and are used to purchase individual items for the ShelterBox.
ShelterBox was the idea of Rotarian Tom Henderson a member of the Rotary Club of Helston-Lizard in Cornwell in the UK. A former Royal Navy search and rescue diver, he has an idea to ease human suffering resulting from earthquakes, floods, volcanoes, wars and civil unrest. Since its inception in February 2000 by the Rotary Club of Helston-Lizard, more than 30,000 ShelterBoxes have been deployed; providing shelter, warmth, comfort and dignity to almost 500,000 people in 30 countries.
